For those who want to cast their ballots in the June 5 primary, Monday is the last day to register to vote.

Solano County Deputy Registrar of Voters John Gardner advised people who still need to register to vote to come to the Elections Department in Fairfield so they can register on time.

The Registrar of Voters office is at 675 Texas St., Suite 2600, and is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The county has no local elections offices in Vallejo or Fairfield.

Some 197,284 people are currently registered to vote, Gardner said.

The June 5 primary election features partisan races for president, and state Senate and Assembly races.

In Solano County, the ballot also will have several local races including the Solano County Board of Supervisors races covering Vallejo and Benicia.

Voters also will also decide the fate of Measure L to continue funding Solano County libraries. If approved, the measure would extend the one-eighth cent sales tax in place since 1998 to pay for library services.

Gardner said it's hard to estimate how many people will cast ballots in the primary, but figured the turnout could be about 60 percent.

To register to vote, people need to be a U.S. citizen, resident of California and not in prison or on parole.

They must also be at least 18 on the date of the election and present a form of identification showing their current address.

Anyone who has been registered to vote but who has moved since the last election, changed their name or wants to change party affiliation must reregister, Gardner siad.

At the Registrar of Voters, voters can also pick up the so-called "Easy Voter Guides," which contain a summary of all of the presidential candidates.

Voters who are registered can request to receive vote-by-mail ballots until May 29.
