Title: Measure A ballots head to Moraga voters
Date: April 12, 2012
Author: Jennifer Modenessi, Contra Costa Times
Ballots asking Moraga residents if they approve of a parcel tax that would raise additional money for the town's four schools are on their way to voters.
The Contra Costa County Elections Division on Monday mailed election packets to 10,150 registered voters in the Moraga school district.
If passed May 8, Measure A would require them to pay a $225 annual parcel tax to fund Moraga schools. Residents already pay a $325 parcel tax that generates $1.8 million per year.
That tax was passed in 2004 and does not expire.
Funds generated by the new measure would be overseen by a citizen's oversight committee and seniors would be exempt from the tax.
Measure A requires a two-thirds majority to pass and would not expire.
