Title: Deadline nears to register
Date: October 13, 2008

The last day to register for the upcoming election is Oct. 20.

The Registrar of Voters reminds citizens that they should re-register to vote when they move, change their name, change their political party affiliation, change their mailing address, or change their signature. Those who have not voted in more than two years should re-register as well.

"If you are not sure if you are properly registered to vote, please call before the deadline to ensure your ability to participate in the upcoming election," said Lindsey McWilliams, Assistant Registrar of Voters .

To find out your voter registration status, call Solano311 or go to www.solanocounty.com/elections.

As of Friday, a total of 180,988 people were registered to vote in Solano County, with 92,078 (or 51 percent) of them registered as permanent vote-by-mail.

"We continue to receive hundreds of new voter registration affidavits daily, and vote-by-mail continues to grow as the way Solano County voters want to cast their ballots," McWilliams said.

Voters should have received their sample ballots this week, vote-by-mail ballots should be delivered to voters by early next week.
