RED BLUFF - Tehama County residents have until Tuesday to register to vote for the Feb. 5 presidential primary election. Forms to register to vote and to register for vote-by-mail are available online at www.co.tehama.ca.us or at the Elections Department in the county annex building at 444 Oak St., Room C.
Registered voters who have moved within the county, changed their political affiliation, or those that have changed their name must complete a new voter registration card. Tehama County Clerk and Recorder Bev Ross said Tehama County absentee voters should have received their vote-by-mail ballots on Monday.
The county is pushing voters to use the vote-by-mail option, previously known as permanent absentee, to cut down on expected long lines at polling sites and to quicken the release of election night results since the touch-screen voting machines have been decertified.
The county has seen an increase in vote-by-mail voters in the past two months from approximately 8,000 to 13,000, Ross said Tuesday.
"I envision that number increasing as people go to the polls and have to wait in lines," she added.
More information is available from the Elections Department at 527-8190 or online at www.co.tehama.ca.us.
